Get Out the Vote
If you’ve ever wondered what GOTV refers to, it means “Get Out the Vote,” and that specifically refers to election day. One of the first things you may have heard in your political career was to plan on taking off the entire day of work on election day. You may have thought that all of the previous months of phone and door-to-door canvasing would be enough to sway undecided voters toward the Republican candidates, but the final push is to make sure they actually vote. This process has been prefected by both parties, and involves a coordinated effort on election day. Volunteers are needed to hand out sample ballots, to serve as poll watchers, phone bank volunteers, runners and other duties. Some mention a time frame of 72hrs, and others reference the final 6 hours before the closing of the polls, but any way you look at it, you need to be actively involved on election day. You can vote absentee in advance to free you up completely for the day.
