Community

RWC is quite involved as a club in the community as well as in politics.

The ladies of RWC are active in honoring our WWII veterans. Many of them volunteer to greet the planes at Dulles who carry the veterans who come to DC to visit THEIR memorial. They are part of the Heroes Welcome Honor Flight program.

We  are a “friend” to the St. Stephen’s United Methodist church’s Military Package program. Here is a wonderful article highlighting their organization. Quarterly, we collect  huge quantities of toiletries, canned food, chips and games/DVDs for the men and women who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. We consider this part of our community outreach to be a privilege and an honor.

One of our most treasured activities is the Wreath Across America program. Every December, we solicit donations from everyone we can think of to support the sponsorship of wreaths to be placed at Arlington National Cemetery and all other veteran cemeteries. We also make a huge effort to go to Arlington Cemetery to help place the wreaths with reverence at the gravestones of America’s true heroes.

Every January, RWC collects coats and jackets for the local family shelter – The Katherine K. Hanley Family Shelter, located at 13000 Lee Highway in Fairfax, VA, 22030, at the intersection of Lee Highway (Route 29) and Meadow Estates Drive.

We’ve donated books to local libraries through the Barbara Bush Literacy Action Committee and Mamie Eisenhower Library Project.
